图书简介
In this book, information related to the technological advancements and applications for the nutritional improvements, disease resistance, abiotic stress tolerance and yield improvement in various agricultural and horticultural crops by utilizing the genome engineering tool kits will be covered. Their use in therapeutics and nutraceuticals enrichments, reducing post-harvest loss, and biosafety and regulatory mechanism of genome-edited crops will also be included. Advances in Genome Engineering in Plants and Applications will start with a look at the historical developments in genome engineering methods. Each advancement will then have a dedicated chapter and look at the development in the identification and availability of new Cas protein variants with a varied range of PAM specificity to engineer a diverse range of targets, base editing (CBE and ABE) technologies and prime editing without any stand break, and methods for multiplexing of gRNA for editing numerous targets at a time. This book will also cover the trans-gene free editing (non-transgenic approaches) of plant genomes which will be of larger interest due to the deregulation of SDN1 and SDN2 mediated mutants in crops in various countries. For the new researchers in the genome engineering area, this book will provide comprehensive knowledge of the plant-specific vector selection, promoters and terminators selection, and a suitable method for the delivery of gRNA and Cas gene/protein as per their target plant genome. The use of nanotechnology in the recent advancement in genome engineering in plants will also be covered. The advancements in the use of genome engineering tools for crop biofortification for nutritional improvement, nutraceuticals improvement, flavonoid enrichment, yield improvement, disease resistance, virus resistance, and abiotic stress tolerance will be covered. As well as applications of genome editing in oil seed crops, vegetables, and ornamental plants. In the last chapter, the biosafety measures and regulatory mechanisms suggested by various regulatory authorities around the world will be discussed along with their importance and shortcomings.
