This well established and trusted book, originally written by William R. Hendee, PhD, and E. Russell Ritenour, PhD, provides the reader with the tools necessary to be comfortable with the physical principles, equipment, and procedures used in diagnostic imaging, as well as appreciate the capabilities and limitations of the technologies. A comprehensive publication, it covers all aspects of image formation in modern medical imaging modalities, from radiography, fluoroscopy, and computed tomography, to magnetic resonance imaging and ultrasound.  It addresses the techniques and instrumentation used in the rapidly changing field of medical imaging.  The fourth edition was published in May 2002, and there have been significant advances in the field even since that time. The book has always been used as a text and reference work, and it is therefore important to note that the American Board of Radiology has shifted to a Part I test of fundamentals early in the radiology residency and a Part II image modality specific exam much later. The new fifth edition of this book addresses these important changes, and offers a painstaking and fundamental revision of all of the books content since the fourth edition was published.
